Adverts will be "subject to standards in a manner consistent with the rights and protection of school children”.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is allowing “advertisements and promotional campaigns” on school buses.
Adel Shakri, Director of the Planning and Business Development Department at the Public Transport Corporation at the Roads and Transport Authority, said the move provides additional sources of income for operators in the school transport sector.
This will be done by “allowing them to occupy advertising and promotional spaces on school buses from inside and outside”.
However, adverts will be subject to “standards and requirements for promoting various products and offers in a manner consistent with the rights and protection of school children”.
The RTA went into detail saying the announcement allowed for the installation of internal screens for advertisements “provided that they are behind the driver to ensure that they do not affect driving and distract the driver, not allowing advertisements to be placed on doors and emergency exits”.
Adverts on the bus bodies should not cover the phrase (school bus) and ensuring that the private field of view is not blocked, or on the back window of the bus.
Applications can be submitted through the advertising system (AMS) on the RTA’s website.
