Fines Up to Dh500,000 for Advertising These Pets in UAE

Websites advertising the illegal sale of dangerous pets and exotic animals have been flagged by residents, prompting authorities to take action. The Ministry of Climate Change and Environment is currently working on an initiative to warn residents against such dangerous practices, according to a report by Emarat Al Youm.

Among the dangerous animals being sold are lions, poisonous snakes, tigers, cheetahs, foxes, and rare dog breeds, with prices ranging from Dh3,000 to Dh10,000.

Exotic dangerous animals are banned as pets in the UAE. Violators face prison time and fines between Dh50,000 and Dh500,000. Harbouring, breeding, owning, and sharing dangerous animals—except in designated facilities such as natural preserves, zoos, animal parks, circuses, breeding centres, and wildlife refuges—is illegal.

For example, a wild rottweiler was on sale for Dh3,500, and several pythons were listed at Dh3,000 each. A tiger anthrax reticulated python, imported from the US, was priced at Dh10,500 and advertised with home delivery. Additionally, a group of cheetahs, lion cubs, and snow foxes were on sale for Dh5,000 each.
